I am not a sports fan. Like, not at all. I used to be though. In high school, I ran track and my boyfriend was on the basketball team. My brothers played football and my sister was a cheerleader. I was at all the games. In college, I dated a basketball player and watched every Laker game I could. To this day, I sometimes consider myself a Laker fan – but to be honest, I could not care less. However, since I do have a history of sports involvement I do know a thing or two about the 4th quarter. The final quarter of the game is when everyone is supposed to pull out all the stops and do everything to finish the game strong. Everyone gives their best in the final moments. You don’t get to the finish line and quit.
September is here which means we are in the 4th quarter of the year. The final four months. I know, 2018 went by in the blink of an eye and for me, the final four months go by even quicker than that. Summer is over, my birthday is in October, then Thanksgiving … Christmas… then we’re done: Happy New Year!
Don’t let the hustle and bustle of these final 4 months distract you. Go back and take a look at the goals that you set for yourself back in January. What is the status? What have you accomplished? If you are disappointed by your answer, take heart, because there is still time to complete what you started. There is still time to begin what you haven’t started. Don’t stay complacent. It ain’t over till it’s over. Here are a few tips to help you get started:
Pull out that list, journal or post-it that you used to write down your goals at the beginning of the year and pick the one thing that you really need to accomplish
Focus in on that one thing and make a list of small steps that you can take to help you get there
Don’t focus on the outcome, only on the steps and each day take another small step
Even if you don’t complete the goal, you are closer than you were – so keep going.
