Wicked 10k

Last weekend I ran my first Wicked 10k in Virginia Beach. This was my second 10k of the year, the first being the Heart of Ghent. My results were a lot better than the previous 10k and I’m finding that I am running much faster in the cooler temperatures.

The course was flat, and we traveled on the boardwalk. It was overcast and windy and seeing the waves crash on to the shore was a sight. I wish I could have stopped to take pictures, but I was chasing a PR – which I did not reach.

Many participants show up in costume for this race and for them, I suppose that is part of the fun. Personally, I don’t see how they were able to run in some of those getups. I guess running wasn’t really the priority for them.

Since the race was at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront I knew that parking would be an issue. If you’ve known me for any length of time you know that I get anxious when I have to go somewhere and I’m uncertain about the parking. The race started at 8:00 am and I got to the Convention Center before 6:30 am in order to secure parking. I wasn’t the only one, so don’t judge me. I took a power nap in my car until it was time to line up for the race.

Overall, it was a great experience and I was glad that I ran this race and I will probably run it again. I believe that 10k is the perfect distance for me. Running for just about an hour feels good and at the end I feel energized … not like I have to sleep for a week.
