The biggest lie that anyone has ever told is: “I didn’t/don’t have a choice”.
Every single day we make hundreds, maybe thousands, of choices as we go through the day. What we will wear, what we will eat, where we will go, etc. Most choices we make without even thinking about it. Then we have the choices that require some thought. Choices like, where we want to go to school, where we will work, what car we will purchase. Then there are the more difficult choices. Choices like will I get married, will I get divorced, will I have children.
All choices. Choices that we freely make in order to change or improve the quality of our lives.
It is sad to me when I hear someone say that they don’t have a choice.
You hate your job, but you stay there because you need the money and you convince yourself that there is no other choice.
Your relationship is unfulfilling, but you stay in it because you believe that there is no other choice.
We have choices. However, sometimes we believe that is just easier to suffer in silence instead of confronting certain issues. We need to realize that we deserve to be happy in our lives. We deserve to experience joy. All it takes is for you to believe that you are deserving of these things and make a choice.
Contrary to popular belief, no one owes you anything. You owe it to yourself to speak your truth and go after the joy that is rightfully yours.
As I journey to 56, I know that my happiness is in my hands and today and every day, I choose happiness.
